Len.
My grandmother is a storyteller. One of my fondest memories growing up was helping her in the kitchen while listening to her stories. Her narratives were based on popular folklore, passed down for generations. They were tales of magic and myth familiar by locals both adult and children alike. They function as a way of keeping children out of trouble by injecting warnings of subsequent consequences when accepted practices are violated.
For instance, children were warned to stop playing and be home before sunset or before going to bed, children were advice to wash their feet to avoid nightmares. These cautionary warnings, parents can be sure that their children are safely at home and behave accordingly. It is a very subtle form of discipline.
I grew up in this culture. Although I do not believe in the stories anymore, it influenced my everyday life. Till today, I never fail to wash my feet before going to bed or be out of the house during late hour if I don’t have to.

Monsters and ghosts
The relationship between humankind and the supernatural is an ancient and universal phenomenon deeply embedded in human psyche.
The term 'ghost' is widely used to describe this phenomenon; creatures without being where its existence can be known or seen only through its phenomenology. Another term that is frequently use is 'monster' ; creatures usually found in myth, legends or horror writings, that is often hideous and may produce fear or physical harm by its appearance or its actions. A derivative from the latin monstrum, a sign or portent that disrupts the natural order, usually connotes something wrong or evil.
However, the root of' monstrum' is 'monere' - which does not only mean to warn, but also to instruct, and forms the basis of the word 'demonstrate'. Thus, the monster is also a sign or instruction.
This interpretation does not portray monsters as inherently evil, but as part of the natural design of the world
